The 2018 Economic Outlook, Opportunity for Local Economy

Semarang, October 11, 2017 – PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (BTPN) and Bisnis Indonesia daily held the Entrepreneur Networking Forum. The event, which theme was The 2018 Economic Outlook: Optimizing Regions’ Potentials in Digital, presented economist Dr Sri Sulandjari from the Satya Wacana University (UKSW) Salatiga and BTPN Head of SME Business Sonny Christian Joseph as speakers while the moderator was Bisnis Indonesia editor-in-chief Hery Trianto.

The discussion revealed opportunities and challenges faced by businesspeople in the coming years. Sonny Christian Joseph said in his presentation that as a bank which has a vision to change the lives of millions of Indonesians, BTPN strongly believes that innovation is the key to grow.

Therefore, BTPN keeps making innovations to fulfill the customers’ needs. One of the innovations is the BTPN Mitra Bisnis, which is a business unit specially designed to serve the needs of small and medium enterprises through reliable financial solutions, developing business capacity and opening access to a wider market.

BTPN Mitra Bisnis comes with various products and banking services to support the customers’ needs of working capital and investments. Apart from products and services related to financing, BTPN Mitra Bisnis is also present with non-financial solution supports to help customers develop their capacities in their businesses, which are a part of Daya. The Daya Program is a sustainable and measurable  empowering program by BTPN to improve customers’ capacity.

Through Daya Tumbuh Usaha Mitra Bisnis, customers will gain inspiration for successful business, broaden their knowledge and build networking among BTPN Mitra Bisnis customers.

“We have various topics which are specially designed based on customers’ needs, for example: providing tax consultant to handle business taxation, making financial reports, legal aspects in business, and upgrading marketing through digital media. These forums are expected to inspire our customers to keep innovating so that they can update with the technology development,” Sonny said.

To support the customer-oriented business process, BTPN Mitra Bisnis is also using the digital platform. Sonny hoped that BTPN Mitra Bisnis could become a partner for SMEs through customized services in order to develop their business and at the end it will support the economic growth.

At the same event, UKSW economist Dr Sri Sulandjari said that the 2018 Indonesia economic growth was predicted to be better than this year. “The World Bank said that the growth was acheived through three policies: the 2016 and 2017 budget efficiency, low inflation and economic packages which ease businesses. The strong economic foundation followed by the slightly increased economic growth in 2018 show that the wider and more credible market opportunity is domestic market,” she said.

However, Sri said that the people still needed access to capital to move the economy. “Access to capital for informal sector needs to be boosted,” she added.

She also said that the micro, small and medium enterpresis (UMKM) needed other supports such as access to the market and upgrading their capactiy to use the economic potential. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s economy in the coming years will see increasing invement due to the improvemet of investment rating by global rating agencies. “The implementation of the previous economic packages will bring positive impact for the 2018 economic growth,” Sri said.

Government spending in infrastructure in different areas, she added, would also move local economy. Sri said that in Central Java, the infrastructure and connectivity would continue to be improved while ease of investment would open a lot of opportunities.
