Jakarta, October 27, 2021 – The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people live their life, especially the way micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) deal with the situation because of economic slowdown and the weakening of people’s purchasing power.

In Indonesia, there are 64 million MSMEs that altogether employ 11 million workers and contribute 60.51% to total GDP, according to data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises. This makes MSMEs the backbone of Indonesia’s economy.

The pandemic has challenged players in the MSME sector to think critically and adapt faster. And for that reason, PT Bank BTPN Tbk (“Bank BTPN”) is holding “DayaFest 2021”, a festival crafted to empower MSMEs, customers and wider public members through a series of inspirational and informative events.

The festival is also to support movements of #UMKMBangkit and #UMKMMaju to help Indonesian MSMEs continue to run, innovate and give values as upheld by Daya from Bank BTPN that helps business players live a more meaningful life through more meaningful (#LebihBerarti) programs.

The DayaFest 2021 series of events began today (27/10) with a talk show on doing business in the MSME sector. Among speakers in the talk show were representatives from the government, entrepreneurs and business founders, representatives from corporations.

Also present in the talk show to give a keynote speech were Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga S. Uno, and Financial Services Authority (OJK) Chairman Wimboh Santoso.

“The series of inspirational events held during Daya Fest 2021 are one of Bank BTPN’s ways to support the sustainability of MSMEs, as well as to provide means to help them recover during the pandemic through, among other things, acceleration of digital transformation for MSMEs. This corresponds to our vision to become the main bank in Indonesia that customers choose and one that gives significant changes in the life of millions of people through digital technology,” said Bank BTPN President Director Ongki Wanadjati Dana.

He added that the surge in technology and digital use in the past five years has inspired Bank BTPN to move forward with digital transformation in the MSME sector through Daya’s sustainable financial empowerment programs.

Sharing a similar view, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said in his keynote speech that 15.9 million MSMEs (or 24.9% of total) have onboarded the digital ecosystem. The ministry aims to have 30 million MSMEs be part of the digital ecosystem in 2024.

“Acceleration of digitalization is key to MSMEs in surviving and recovering amid challenges during the pandemic. DayaFest plays a strategic role in developing and empowering MSMEs to innovate, open business opportunities and move the economy through acceleration of technology and digitalization in the MSME sector. We hope that this activity would help ignite MSMEs’ spirit in developing their businesses and help support an entrepreneurship ecosystem based on innovation and technology,” said Teten.

Financial Services Authority Chairman Wimboh Santoso said in his keynote speech that the OJK has introduced a number of policies to support MSMEs, including through the extension of financial access for MSMEs by replicating banks’ micro credit program (KUR), and development of a digital-based financing ecosystem, support of a digital credit scheme for MSMEs. OJK norms are also designed to allow the number of MSMEs onboarding e-commerce platforms to continue to increase so more start-up companies can sell their products at marketplaces, to allow the Team for Acceleration of Regional Financial Access (TPKAD) to initiate financial inclusion programs, and to support the national movement of ‘Proud of Indonesian-made Products’.

“The financial service sector is expected to be committed to continuously supporting the growth of a digital-based MSME ecosystem, extending financial access for MSMEs from upstream to downstream, providing coaching programs and assistance for MSMEs, and enhancing financial literacy and inclusion of MSMEs. We hope that business players, the OJK, financial service providers would continue to maintain this synergy to allow our MSMEs grow in capacity and capability so they would make strong contenders not only in the domestic, but also in the global market,” said Wimboh.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga S. Uno expressed his appreciation towards Bank BTPN’s DayaFest 2021, saying: “I hope that this event would give more opportunities to MSMEs, especially those in the tourism and creative economy sectors, to move forward. I’m confident that Indonesian MSMEs are able to bounce back, get back to the game and take advantage of opportunities to be the victor, through innovation, adaptation and collaboration strategies. Hopefully, this event will also cement Bank BTPN’s role in supporting movements of #UMKMBangkit and #UMKMMaju on our homeland for a more meaningful (#LebihBerarti) life.”

In addition to inspirational talk shows, there will be Business Idea Competition as part of the series of events during DayaFest 2021 to give entrepreneurs more room and motivation to realize their innovative, inspirational and significant business ideas. Their business ideas have to give social impacts, be environmentally friendly and use a digital platform.

The winners of ‘Business Idea Competition’ will win not only win a cash prize, but also assistance and training sessions from experts who team up with Bank BTPN to help them realize their business ideas.

As part of Daya Fest 2021, Bank BTPN will also hold ‘Selendang Mayang Online’, an annual event that serves as a marketplace for MSMEs to sell their products. Selendang Mayang has received positive responses from business players and consumers of home-industry products throughout the past five years. There were 100 MSMEs participating in the event in 2019.

Different from previous events, ‘Selendang Mayang Online’ is adopting an online concept and introducing digital transformation to MSMEs, to give all participants a new selling experience from October 28, 2021 to the end of January, 2022.

“Bank BTPN hopes to continue supporting and being part of development and progress of MSMEs in Indonesia through the series of events and empowerment programs for a more meaningful (#LebihBerarti) life,” said Ongki.
