Bank BTPN's Commitment in Realizing Sustainable Initiatives in Indonesia


Bandung, November 30, 2023 – Net Zero Emission (NZE) efforts are now a concern across sectors, including the business and banking sectors. Moreover, the facts show that there is an indirect environmental and social track record for every business activity and bank portfolio. As a financial institution, Bank BTPN, which has now grown into a universal bank with a variety of products and services for all customers, is aware of the great opportunity to contribute to sustainability initiatives for the Indonesian economy and the nation's prosperity.

 

Apart from conveying the journey of Bank BTPN over the 65 years of its transformation into a universal bank, the President Director of Bank BTPN Henoch Munandar at the Bank BTPN Year-end Media Gathering 2023 "Back to the Roots: Getting to Know Bank BTPN" which took place at the Bank BTPN Branch Office in the Juanda area, Bandung (30/11) also confirmed Bank BTPN's commitment to fully support and implement the principles of sustainable finance to support the government in achieving sustainable development goals through various efforts in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) fields.

 

"Bank BTPN's sustainability initiatives have become an integrated part of the preparation of Bank BTPN's business strategy, policies and daily operations. In practice, Bank BTPN continues to ensure the highest standards in terms of governance, internal control and good market conduct for the satisfaction of its customers. "This of course starts from implementing Bank BTPN's values which serve as guidelines for running a business, namely Integrity, Customers first, Proactivity and Innovativeness, Speed and Quality and Synergy," he said.

 

Bank BTPN has taken several strategic steps to implement its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles which aim to support sustainable growth. This includes designing a Sustainable Financial Action Plan (RAKB). Through RAKB, Bank BTPN determines strategies to manage the impacts of climate change and support the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

 

"In realizing these sustainability priorities, Bank BTPN also has several visions for moving forward. Among them, Bank BTPN believes that through digitalization and effective collaboration, sustainable development goals can be better realized. Through digital technology as the main platform; such as the presence of Jenius; "We are always committed to providing seamless services to customers," added Henoch.

 

The birth and evolution process of Jenius as a life finance solution for digital-savvy customers is one way for Bank BTPN to respond to rapid changes in the digital era, especially related to the emergence of new behavior, where Indonesian people who are increasingly digital-literate and can easily socialize utilizing an increasing access to the internet. During its 7 years of existence, Jenius has prioritized innovation and launched various new features that are rooted in the needs of its users through a process of co-creation and collaboration. To date, Jenius continues to grow with the digital savvy community and has reached more than 4.8 million users spread across 38 provinces from Sabang to Merauke in 514 cities and districts in Indonesia.

 

Green Financing and Empowerment In facing the trend towards a more environmentally conscious global world, Bank BTPN has expanded opportunities for green portfolio funding. "As of June 30, 2023, Rp14.17 trillion of our financing portfolio was directed towards sustainable business activities, including Rp7.63 trillion or 5% of Bank BTPN's total financing until the end of June 2023 for various sustainable business activities with the classifications specified in POJK 51, including for MSMEs," added Henoch.

 

Apart from increasing its green portfolio, Bank BTPN's sustainability initiatives also have the Daya program, which is a sustainable program that focuses on empowering and increasing the capacity of customers and society in general by providing opportunities for growth and a more meaningful life.

 

Through the Daya program, Bank BTPN provides a means of increasing community capacity in all segments, from the corporate segment to the micro community. This innovative program is a unique value proposition, which differentiates Bank BTPN from other banks. As of the end of June 2023, the Daya program has been participated by 1,529,194 (up 10% yoy) beneficiaries through 5,019 (up 77% yoy) activities throughout Indonesia.

 

The latest implementation carried out by the Daya program is "Walking and Cycling for the Earth" which is carried out by Bank BTPN employees through Sahabat Daya. In this activity, employees voluntarily carry out low-emission activities, namely walking or cycling when going to or returning from the office instead of using motorized vehicles to reduce pollution. The total mileage generated from walking or cycling has been converted into 625 mangrove trees planted by Bank BTPN in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area.

 

Not only limited to Bank BTPN employees, other programs from Sahabat Daya also invite customers and partners to play a role in bringing about change in society through various empowerment activities.

 

"The demand to meet the Net Zero Emission target has greatly influenced the business competition landscape in Indonesia, especially in the banking industry. It is not an easy thing to do, but it is important for a better future for the earth and Indonesia. "Bank BTPN is fortunate because shareholders, management and employees have the same commitment to achieving the NZE target that has been set in 2050," explained Henoch.

 

He added that the 'Walking and Cycling for the Earth' activity will continue to be carried out as a form of Bank BTPN's active participation in supporting carbon emission reduction, in order to provide a positive impact for future generations.
