THE DAYA PROGRAM ENHANCES CAPACITIES OF MICRO IN JEMBER

Jember, 24 June 2014 – Focused and consistent in serving lower-income communities, as well as micro & small enterprises (mass market), PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (BTPN) believes that its direct involvement in empowering its customers is the key to achieving top-quality and sustainable business performance growth.

To realize this, BTPN has implemented a business model that integrates its social and business missions in terms of its products, services, and everyday activities. The synergy between its business and empowerment efforts is reflected through ’Daya’, a measured and sustainable empowerment program that is available to all BTPN customers comprised of pensioners, micro & small enterprise entrepreneurs, as well as the productive poor community.

Daya consists of the following three program pillars: Daya Sehat Sejahtera, Daya Tumbuh Usaha, and Daya Tumbuh Komunitas. Daya is applied in each of the BTPN business units. Currently, BTPN has the following four business units: BTPN Purna Bakti – which was designed specifically to meet the needs of pensioners, BTPN Mitra Usaha Rakyat – which is aimed at micro & small enterprise entrepreneurs, BTPN Syariah – which was formed to serve and empower the millions of productive poor families in Indonesia so that they can attain a better life, as well as BTPN Sinaya - its funding business unit.

“On a routine basis, at all its branches, BTPN stages Daya Program activities which provide training and information aimed at enhancing the capacities of its customers. BTPN is fully aware that in order for the mass market segment to grow and develop, it not only requires financial access, but also training and guidance to improve its capabilities,” said Bagus Widhyantara, Regional Business Leader (RBL) Jatim/East Java 2 BTPN.

The Daya Program has been proven to have a positive impact on the enhancement of customers’ capacities. Results of research conducted by Management and Business IPB (MB IPB) and BTPN in February 2013 showed a positive correlation between the frequency that customers attended training programs and increases in turnover and reductions in operational costs for their businessess. ”Disciplined customers who put their financial training into practice in running their businesses get to experience the direct benefits of the Daya Program training,” Bagus continued.

In the Daya Tumbuh Usaha (Daya Business Growth) training session to be held today, BTPN Mitra Usaha Rakyat in Jember is offering three sub programs, namely practical entrepreneurial training, business information and services, and micro franchise opportunities.

One of our customers who has felt the positive benefits of Daya Tumbuh Usaha is Sudarsih, a micro enterprise entrepreneur in the roof tile production business. Since becoming a BTPN customer in 2012 with a loan of Rp 400 million, Sudarsih has taken part in various training programs presented by BTPN. He has learned, amongst many other things, the importance of product branding as well as financial management.
On a national scale, during the first three months of 2014, BTPN organized 46.233 Daya activities, an increase of 194% from the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, the number of customers participating in the Daya program reached 566.772, a rise of 101% (yoy). This data shows the high level of interest that mass market customers have in taking part in empowerment programs that will enable them to enhance their business capacities.
