Bank BTPN Continues Adding Banking Digital Security Measures
Jakarta, 9 August 2021 – PT Bank BTPN Tbk (“Bank BTPN”) continues to add security measures in its digital banking system to ensure customers’ security and comfort in carrying out transactions.
“Bank BTPN constantly adds security measures in its digital banking system in line with technological developments and times, to make sure that our customers’ data is well protected,” said Darmadi Sutanto, Deputy President Director of Bank BTPN.
“It takes a collaboration of all living in a digital ecosystem in ensuring customers’ data security and protection. This collaboration needs to participation of, not only financial services institutions, but also other digital services providers in the financial technology industry, regulators, law enforcement agencies, and customers,” he said.
Bank BTPN continuously educates customers of Jenius, part of Bank BTPN, and wider public members, about efforts that they can do to secure their personal and secret data and information to anticipate potential digital crimes, as well as about features in Jenius application that will help them secure their data during transactions because Bank BTPN prioritizes customers’ fund and data security.
Bank BTPN also always encourages customers and wider public members to protect their secret and personal data and information by, among others, not sharing OTP (One-Time Password), PIN (Personal Identification Number), and password, to anyone, including Bank BTPN staff members.
Bank BTPN disseminates education on security awareness through Bank BTPN’s and Jenius’s official channels, e-mails, push notifications, seminars, and mass media.
In addition, Bank BTPN also has shut down access to Jenius on the website to minimize the risk of social engineering crimes by cybercrime perpetrators. In a social engineering scheme, perpetrators manipulate their victims through, for example, phone calls, SMS, e-mails, or social media platforms.
Bank BTPN has implemented a one-device policy to further protect customers’ Jenius accounts. The policy only allows customers to access Jenius and perform transactions on one verified device. Customers will have to call Jenius Help 1500 365 or go to Bank BTPN’s nearest Sinaya branch office should they want to migrate their Jenius account to another device.
“Jenius will continue disseminating education to customers about the importance of protecting their personal and sensitive data in every possible moment. Users may access https://www.jenius.com/pages/jeniusaman for further information about banking security. We also are collaborating with industry players and regulators to continue raising public awareness on banking security,” said Irwan Tisnabudi, Digital Banking Head of Bank BTPN.
Cybersecurity consultant Teguh Aprianto said customers need to be cautious when someone claiming from a bank reaches them through phone calls, short text messages, or direct messages on social media, and asks customers to provide personal and sensitive data and information or asks customers to click on a particular link.
“We know this method as phishing, where perpetrators manipulate victims, so they give out their personal data,” said Teguh, himself also a cofounder of Ethical Hacker Indonesia, a community that helps educate public members to avoid cybersecurity crimes.
“We, as consumers, shall never give our personal data, especially in public platforms like social media, to keep ourselves safe from digital crimes,” he said.
