DAYA PROGRAM ENHANCES THE CAPACITY OF MICRO & SMALL ENTERPRISES IN YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta, September 12, 2013 – Focused and consistent in serving lower-income groups, as well as micro & small enterprises (mass market), PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional Tbk (BTPN) believes that its direct involvement in empowering its customers is the key to achieving top-quality and sustainable business performance growth.

To realize this, BTPN has implemented a business model that integrates its social and business missions in terms of its products, services, and everyday activities. The synergy between its business and empowerment efforts is reflected through Daya, a measurable and sustainable empowerment program that is available to all BTPN customers, comprised of pensioners, micro & small enterprises, as well as productive poor communities.

“BTPN is aware that, in order to grow, the mass market segment not only requires financial access, but also training and guidance to enhance its capacities. In light of this, BTPN launched the empowerment program known as Daya. Through Daya, customers gain beneficial knowledge, including how to manage their finances, how to run their business, how to market their business, and how to manage their employees,” said Syam Hidayat, Deputy Regional Business Leader Yogyakarta.

Daya consists of the following three program pillars: Daya Sehat Sejahtera, Daya Tumbuh Usaha, and Daya Tumbuh Komunitas. Daya is applied in the BTPN business units that focus on the mass market, namely BTPN Purna Bakti, BTPN Mitra Usaha Rakyat and BTPN Syariah.

Today, BTPN is focusing solely on the Daya Tumbuh Usaha component, by offering three sub-programs. These are practical entrepreneurial training, business information and services, and micro-franchise opportunities.

On a national level, during the first semester of 2013, the Daya program reached 697,885 beneficiaries. This represented an increase of 31,7% from the first semester of 2012 in which there were 529,991 beneficiaries. The number of Daya program activities staged in the first semester of this year also rose by 83,6%, from 22,034 in the first six months of 2012 to 40,456 activities.

With the support of the Daya Program, in the first semester of 2013, credit disbursement grew by 27% (year-on-year/yoy) from Rp. 34,4 trillion on June 30, 2012 to Rp. 43,6 trillion on the same date this year. This rise in intermediation remained offset by the application of prudent banking principles, as reflected by a net non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of 0,39% at the end of June 2013, a decline from the ratio at the end of June 2012 of 0,43%.

BTPN’s focus in serving the mass market segment is gaining it increasing public attention and trust. This is apparent from its increase in third party funds (TPF). Through BTPN Sinaya, the value of public deposits grew by 19% (yoy) from Rp. 40 trillion as of June 30, 2012 to Rp. 47,7 trillion on June 30, 2013.

BTPN Sinaya is a funding business unit that provides savings and deposit products. All funds deposited in BTPN Sinaya are distributed in the form of credit to the mass market through BTPN Purna Bakti, BTPN Mitra Usaha Rakyat, and BTPN Syariah.

“The public believes that, by depositing funds in BTPN Sinaya, besides getting an optimal rate of return, they will also have the opportunity to contribute to the empowerment of lower income groups and micro & small enterprises,” said Syam.
