Bandung (Admin). In the awareness of the need to improve the public's familiarity with the banking products and services, Bank Indonesia has recently published the Blueprint of Public Education in Banking. The launching of banking education with the theme "Let's Go to the Bank" took place at the Central Bank Building on 14th June last year and was attended by the Governor of Bank Indonesia Burhanuddin Abdullah.
The public education on the banking products and services is crucial in creating a society that is familiar with the vast variety of banking activities as well as its products and services, so that the selection of banking instruments will be made with educated consideration. 2008 as the Year of Banking Education will be launched officially on 27th January 2008.
The signing of joint commitment on this program is the last part of the priority program of the sixth pillar of Indonesian Banking Architecture (Arsitektur Perbankan Indonesia - API), i.e. protection enhancement and customer empowerment.
The signing was conducted by working group members of the public education in banking that has been set up last May. This working group consists of Bank Indonesia, 14 commercial banks (conventional and sharia), 1 rural bank, 1 credit card provider association, 3 banking associations and 1 non banking credit card provider.
This program is expected to stimulate the public interest in banking products and services as well as their understanding of the rights and obligations as a customer. It will also improve the customers' prudent decisions in making financial transactions and their familiarity with the complaint and dispute mechanism in banks. (FDT, source: Tempo interaktif.com & BI)
