RUPIAH REMAINS STABLE

Jakarta - Rupiah is predicted to stay in the range of 9,090-9,100 per USD this week as the lack of sentiment will cause Rupiah to remain stable. On Monday, 16th April 2007 at 8:23, Rupiah stood at 9,098 per USD and was traded at 9,094-9,102 per USD. At the closing of the market on Friday, 13th April 2007, Rupiah strengthened to 9,092 USD.

Market participants expect Rupiah to remain stable despite its potential to keep strengthening, due to the central bank's measures to prevent high volatility of the currency. As Rupiah movements are mostly driven by foreign funds, BI is of the concern that fast appreciation of Rupiah will make it susceptible to fast depreciation.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Dollar has recorded its highest level in the last two years with the rate NZD74 per USD. This morning, USD weakened against almost all major world currencies as investors anticipated the decline of US growth following the drop in consumer confidence index in the last eight months. USD was traded at 119.16 Japanese Yen compared with the previous 119.42 per Yen, while against Euro, USD stood at 1.3564 per Euro compared to the previous 1.3551 / Euro.
